 Course Description  The aim of this course is to provide a theoretical basis of advanced optics and photonics for 3, 4 year student majoring in Physics or Engineering. Starting from geometic optics, this lecture includes advanced topics such as wave optics, electromagnetic optics and quantum optics. Main subjects are Fermat's principle, paraxial approximation, ray equation, eikonal equation, paraxial Helmholtz equztion, paraboloidal wave, Gaussian beam, ADCD law, Laguerre-Gaussian beam & angular momentum, Fourier optics, Fraunhofer/Fresnel diffraction, Maxwell equation and electormagnetic wave, absorption & dispersion, reflection and refraction of vector wave, optical activity & magneto-optics, liquid crystal optics, whispering gallery mode, photonic crystal cavity, statistical optics, partical coherence and quantum state of light, etc.
